POSITION TITLE: BILLING & COLLECTIONS MANAGER, Physician Practice

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The physician practice Billing & Collections Manager is responsible for all aspects of managing the Billing and Collections Department, including training, hiring, performance reviews, establishing and implementing protocols, monitoring productivity, time records and all associated activity.
  • The Billing & Collections Manager is responsible for ensuring billing and collections of all physician practice services, prompt and efficient follow-up to denials and the research of all unpaid balances.
  • The Billing & Collections Manager is responsible for providing the most efficient tools and processes.
  • The Billing& Collections Manager is responsible for attending managers’ meetings, organizing department meetings and communicating with other departments to fulfill the goals and objectives.
  • Month-end activity involves statistical reporting, special invoicing and updating all queues.
  • The Manager is responsible for all Task Manager maintenance, EOB Manager (scanner) scheduling and the ACD team (Automatic Call distribution).
  • Day-to-day functions include approving, batching and logging adjustment and refund requests, ensuring timely turnover of collection balances and work distribution/assignments.
  • One measure of your success will be the number of days it takes the average charge to be paid and reducing that statistic whenever possible. 
  • Proven ability to help the practice grow.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Hands-on management of billing department for large, multi-site physician practice.
  • In depth knowledge of electronic insurance billing and appeals processes.
  • Multi-year experience in medical collections using task and queue systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD-9 coding and HIPAA regulations.
  • Computer skills including GE Centricity (preferred) or other electronic billing and remittance practice management software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Experience with report writing.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with proven follow-up skills.
